Build a Home Gym Under ₹25,000
A realistic shopping list that covers 90% of what you'll ever train — and the order to buy it in so you're useful from week one.
You don’t need a ₹2 lakh setup to get strong. With a tight ₹25,000 budget and the right priorities, you can build a home gym that handles full-body training for years. Here’s the list, in the order you should buy it.
1. Adjustable bench — ~₹6,000
The foundation. A flat/incline bench unlocks presses, rows, step-ups, and split squats. Get one rated for at least 250 kg total load and check the welds, not the padding.
2. Adjustable dumbbells or a hex pair — ~₹9,000
Your main strength tool. If space is tight, adjustables win. If you want bulletproof and cheap, a couple of hex pairs do the job. (We break this down in our dumbbell guide.)
3. A pull-up bar — ~₹1,500
Doorway or wall-mounted. Pull-ups and hangs are the best upper-back work you can do at home, and a bar costs almost nothing.
4. Resistance bands — ~₹1,200
For warm-ups, assisted pull-ups, and accessory work. Light, cheap, and they fill the gaps your dumbbells can’t.
5. A mat + the leftover — ~₹2,000
Protect your floor and your joints. Whatever’s left goes toward heavier dumbbell plates as you get stronger.
The running total
| Item | Approx cost |
|---|---|
| Bench | ₹6,000 |
| Dumbbells | ₹9,000 |
| Pull-up bar | ₹1,500 |
| Bands | ₹1,200 |
| Mat + buffer | ₹2,000 |
| Total | ~₹19,700 |
That leaves a cushion under ₹25,000 for a deal-timed upgrade — usually heavier plates or a second dumbbell pair. Watch the equipment deals and buy the big items when they actually drop. Patience here is worth a few thousand rupees.
